About Bill Buckner
By the time baseball first baseman and outfielder William Joseph Buckner retired from the sport, he had become the 21st person to join the list of players to play in the MLB for four decades. He started his career in the league as an outfielder in 1969 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which had selected him in the 1968 draft.
In 1976, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he would eventually start playing as a baseman. He also played for Boston Red Sox (1984-1987 and 1990), California Angels (1987-1988) and Kansas City Royals (1988-1989).
Family Life
He was raised in American Canyon, Napa County, California. His parents’ names were Marie Katherine and Leonard Buckner. He had two brothers and a sister. He was married to Jody, with whom he had a son and two daughters.
Achievements
He was the National League batting champion for the 1980 season. He also played in the 1981 All-Star game.
Death
He died from Lewy body dementia on May 27, 2019.
