About Bill Cowher
William Laird Cowher, popularly known as Bill Cowher, earned a reputation in the National Football League (NFL) as a very successful coach. He had previously played in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns but he was not as successful. In 1985, he started working under Marty Schottenheimer as assistant coach of the Cleveland Browns. He left the team in 1988 and began a tenure as the defensive coordinator for Kansas City Chiefs in 1989. In 1992, he was appointed head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He retired in 2006.
Family Life
He was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was married to Kaye Young, a former professional basketball player until her death from skin cancer in 2010. They had three daughters together. In 2014, he married Veronica Stigeler.
Achievements
He won the AP NFL Coach of the Year award in 1992 and was a two-time Sporting News NFL Coach of the Year. He became a Pro Football Hall of Famer in 2020.
