About Billy Bean
Following his remarkable performance at college, Billy Bean joined Major League Baseball in 1986 as a signee of the Detroit Tigers. After two years, he became a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers where he featured for about three years. He later played for Japanese side Kintetsu Buffaloes before returning to the United States to play for the San Diego Padres.
Post-retirement
Bean didn’t leave the sport entirely after announcing his retirement. The former outfielder has taken on many administrative works. He was appointed the league’s first-ever Ambassador for Inclusion in 2014. Two years later, he became the deputy President, Social Responsibility & Inclusion of the MLB. He has also served as the MLB’s Vice President and Special Assistant to the Commissioner.
He has appeared in many television programs which have increased his popularity. In 2006, he appeared as one of the panels on the game show “I've Got a Secret”. He has been spotted in an episode of MTV’s “Made”.
Personal Life
His original name is William Daro Bean and was born to Linda Robertson and Bill Bean. He married and divorced a woman before he disclosed that he’s gay.
Education
He was a state champion during his time at Santa Ana High School. He continued his career at Loyola Marymount University.
