About Billy Cobham
William Emmanuel Cobham Jr. is an American jazz drummer who rose to fame in the late 1960s. This versatile drummer made history by being inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of fame in 2013.
Education and Background
The Panamanian-American was the son of Manuel Cobham, who was a hospital statistician and a piano player. Billy developed a love for music by playing the drums at his father's shows; he then enrolled in the High School of Music and art in New York.
Career Highlights
Billy was drafted into the U.S. army in 1965, where he played with the Amy band. After leaving the army, the drummer held onto his drum sticks and became a member of Horace Silver's quintet. In 1973, Billy debuted his album, "Spectrum," which topped the Billboard magazine Jazz Albums charts that year. The album, which took a bit of inspiration from Miles Davis’ jazz fusion, also made it to No. 26 on the Top 200 Albums chart.
Billy Cobham has worked with major labels such as Atlantic, Columbia, CTI, and Elektra.
Personal Life
Billy is still married to his wife, Faina, as of 2021. He founded the Billy Cobham School of drums, where he teaches young kids at the Artiste Works Drum Academy.

Aside from being an avid drummer, Cobham also doubles as a Musician, songwriter, and educator.
The American drummer has worked with the New York City-based Mahavishnu Orchestra, Scottish bassist Jack Bruce, Mickey Hart and Bill Kruetzmann.
