About Bob Goalby
Bob was born in Illinois in the US. He was named Robert George Goalby at birth. He lived in Illinois most of his life. He loved golf since he was little boy and was a caddie on the golf course. In high school, he was an All-State Quarterback and was enrolled in University of Illinois on football scholarship but he lost his scholarship because he played baseball a couple of times for Southern Illinois University.
During the Korean War, he was in the United States Military. He later became a golfer and a golf course architect.
Career
In 1952, he started playing golf professionally. Between 1958 and 1974, he was active on the PGA tour and won over ten times. His most recognized victory in golf during the 1968 Masters was as a result of Robert De Vicenzo signing an incorrect scorecard. A lot of people were mad about this and Bob received a lot of hate mail and reactions about it but he said he did not let it get to him because it was not his fault and he had no say in what had happened. He died in January of 2022.
