About Bob Griese
Robert Allen Griese, famously known as Bob Griese, is a legendary American professional football player. In addition, he was a highly prolific quarterback. Griese played solely for the Miami Dolphins throughout his professional career, between 1967 and 1980.
Background & Early Career
Griese attended Rex Mundi High School, where he excelled as a letterman in football, baseball, and basketball.
Between 1964 and 1966, he enrolled at Purdue University. He notably earned two “All-American” honors with Purdue, and in 1967 the Miami Dolphins drafted him into the American Football League as the number one draft.
Professional Career Highlights
Griese enjoyed a successful rookie season with the Miami Dolphins in 1967. He was subsequently integral to the team’s authoritative ball-control offense strategy, earning them three consecutive AFC championships (1971, 1972, & 1973) and two Super Bowls (VII & VIII).
One of his significant highlights came in 1972 when he missed eight of Miami’s games but returned in time to lead them in winning Super Bowl VII.
He was a two-time All-Pro, four-time All-AFC, and six-time MVP for the Miami Dolphins. In addition, he starred in 6 “AFC-NFC Pro Bowls” and 2 “AFL All-Star Games.”
Honors
He has been inducted into the prestigious Indiana Football Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the College Football Hall of Fame.
