About Bob McAdoo
It didn’t take long before Bob McAdoo made his mark in the NBA. He joined the league in 1972 after he was drafted by the Buffalo Braves. Mostly used as a power forward, the American won the league’s “Rookie of the Year” prize after his first season. His excellent performance earned him a place in the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
After four years, he joined the New York Knicks where he played until 1979. His most successful spell was with the Los Angeles Lakers, a side he joined in 1981. Before leaving the club in 1985, McAdoo had won a couple of NBA championships. He played in the NBA for 14 years before moving to Italy to play for teams like Olimpia Milano, and Filanto Forlì.
As a coach
In 1995, he joined the Miami Heat franchise as a deputy coach and served in that position for nineteen years. During that time, he worked under coaches like Pat Riley, Erik Spoelstra, and Stan Van Gundy. In 2013, he won his third NBA championships with the team.
Personal Life
His parents Vandalia and Robert worked for different educational institutions. Charlina, his first wife, died in 1991 after suffering from cancer. They had four children. The kids are Ross, Robert III, Rita and Russell.
He later married Patrizia, and they are blessed with two kids. Their first daughter Rasheeda is a popular tennis star. Ryan, their other child, is a basketball player.
Awards
In 2000, he became a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer. Six years later, his name was added to the College Basketball Hall of Fame. He has also been ushered into other hall of fames like the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, and the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
