Personal Life
Bob Lloyd Schieffer was the name his parents gave him at birth. They were Gladys Payne Schieffer and John Emmitt Schiefer. He also had a sister by name Sharon Schieffer Mayes. He studied at North Side High School before getting his degree from Texas Christian University. He then got together with Patricia Penrose and in 1967, they became husband and wife and had two children.
Career
He started his career in the air force and joined the Fort Worth Star-Telegram after being discharged honorably. In 1973, he became an anchor on CBS Sunday Night News and worked as a 60 Minutes Contributor at the same time. In 1982, he was the Chief Washington correspondent for CBS News till 2015. After his retirement, he decided to dabble in music and work as a songwriter.
Health Scare
He was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder in 2003 but survived the illness and was declared cancer-free about a year later. He is also known to suffer from type 2 diabetes.
