Background
Son of an influential heart surgeon, Yegorov graduated from the First Moscow State Medical University in 1961. He decided to become a cosmonaut when he met Soviet Union pilot and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first man to go to space.
Career
Yegorov underwent training from Yuri Gagarin and joined other doctors to study space medicine. In 1964, this Soviet Union doctor was selected as part of the multi-disciplinary team that flew to space on Voskhod 1. Yegorov gathered data to help Soviet scientists plan and adapt to long shuttles. He was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union in 1964.
Death
This Soviet Union hero died of a heart attack in 1994.
