About Boris Pasternak
Boris Pasternak, a Nobel Laureate for Literature, was widely considered as one of Russia's outstanding post-revolutionary authors, novelists, and literary translators. He came into the limelight after the publication of his first collection of poems “My Sister, Life” in 1922 which quickly became a classic in the Russian language and accepted by the Russian audiences.
Following his breakthrough, he garnered international recognition with his novel, “Doctor Zhivago”. This novel was prohibited in his native country but acclaimed as a literary masterpiece by both American and European reviewers. As a result, several English translations of this novel were widely available throughout the Western world.
Family
He was born into a well-educated Jewish family. Leonid Pasternak, his father, was a well-known Russian portrait painter and art educator, and Rosa Kaufman, his mother, was a former concert pianist.
He tied the knot with artist Evgeniya Lurye but later divorced in 1931. He fathered a son called Leonid Pasternak and a daughter called Evgenij Pasternak.
