About Branford Marsalis
Branford Marsalis is an American musician who comes from the renowned Marsalis family of jazzists. He has worked on innumerable projects throughout the years but he is best known for leading his own band, the Branford Marsalis Quartet.
Throughout his career, which began in the early 1980s, he participated on well over 150 albums. And over 30 of them were with him as the lead artist.
He has regularly worked with the likes of Harry Connick Jr., Dizzy Gillespie, Sting and the Walking Dead.
Family Life
His parents are named Ellis II and Dolores Marsalis. His brothers Delfeayo, Wynton and Jason are also well-known jazz musicians, and he has two other brothers namely, Mboya and Ellis III.
Achievements
In 2001 the Branford Marsalis Quartet took home a Grammy for their album “Contemporary Jazz”.
In 2006 he was given an Honorary Doctorate by Berklee College of Music.
In 2012 he and Harry Connick Jr. received a humanitarian award for their joint response to Hurricane Katrina.
