About Brett Hull
Canadian-American sports personality Brett Hull gained fame as an ice hockey player. He starred for several ice hockey teams and also played internationally for the US national hockey team. He was known for his amazing offensive works, although he was often criticized for his lack of defensive contribution.
Collegiate Career
Before becoming a professional player, he played for the University of Minnesota-Duluth’s ice hockey team after receiving a sporting scholarship. During his time there, he wore the number 29 jersey and set many records including scoring 52 goals in the 1985-86 season. He also scored a total of 7 hat tricks during his time at the school.
Professional Playing Career
He turned professional and signed his first professional contract with the Calgary Flames. This was after spending only two seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
In May 1986 Hull played his first game for the Flames in a fixture against Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Finals. He went on to play in 51 more games for the team before he was traded to St. Louis Blues in March 1988.
With the Blues, Hull continued his great goal-scoring form and scored 50 goals in 50 NHL games during the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons, making him the 5th player in the history of the NHL to achieve such a feat.
He joined Dallas Stars in 1998 and then in 2004 he signed a contract to play for the Phoenix Coyotes. He retired with the Coyotes in October 2005.
Due to his amazing performances he was a regular fixture in the NHL All-Star Games and in 1992 he was named the MVP.
Management Career
Hull entered into management after retiring as a player. The first team he worked as a manager was The Dallas Stars, where was named interim co-manager alongside Les Jackson in November 2007. They were later hired on a permanent basis. However, they were later replaced by ex-Canadian hockey star Joe Nieuwendyk.
Honors
As a player Hull won the Stanley Cup Championships two times. He first won the championship in 1999 with the Dallas Stars before winning it in 2002 with Detroit Red Wings.
He received the Hart Memorial Trophy in 1991. That same year, he was also honored with the Lester B. Pearson Award.
In 2006 his jersey number was retired by the University of Minnesota-Duluth in his honor.
Family
Alison was his first wife. He had three children with her named Crosby, Jayde and Jude. His second marriage was in 2006 to Darcie Schollmeyer.
The ex-ice hockey star is a son of Joanne and Bobby Hull, who was also a renowned ice hockey player. He is a brother to Michelle, Bobby, Bart and Blake Hull.
Facts
During the days of his playing career he was known by nicknames such as "The Incredible Hull" and “The Golden Brett”.
Due to his dual nationality, Hull was eligible to play for either the US or Canada. However, he opted to play for the former.
He scored a total of 33 heart tricks during his playing career.
Hull played for Penticton Knights and scored 48 goals in the 50 games he played for the team in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League during the 1982-83 season.
His father wore jersey number during his days as a player.
Hull has also ventured into entrepreneurship. He established "Hully and Mo Restaurant and Tap Room" together with fellow ex-ice hockey star Mike Modano.
Aside from hockey, he enjoys playing golf and has participated in numerous charity tournaments.
In 2004 he starred on “Saturday Night Live”.
