About Brewster H. Shaw
Brewster Hopkinson Shaw, a retired NASA astronaut with 533 space flight hours under his belt, was inducted into the U. S. Astronauts Hall of Fame in 2006. The two-time commander of the Columbia space shuttle was a former air force colonel and Boeing executive.
Early Life
He joined the air force to train as a pilot after getting an engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin. After serving in numerous nations, he was chosen as an astronaut by NASA in January 1978, where he served on loan from the Air Force. On STS-61B Atlantis, he was the shuttle's first commander.
In 1989, he left the Johnson Space Center to take a senior administrative post at NASA Headquarters as Deputy Director, Space Shuttle Operations. He served for close to three decades with NASA. He joined Rockwell in 1996. He returned to the Boeing Company's Houston campus in January 2006 and took over as Vice President & General Manager of the division's Space Exploration, which oversees the company's International Space Station and Space Shuttle programs.
Family Life
He married Jenny Brewster and they have three children.
Honors
He received the Defense Superior Service Medal among others.
