About Bruce McLaren
Bruce McLaren was a New Zealand racecar driver, designer, engineer and inventor. He is remembered best as the founder of the famous McLaren Racing Team. At 14 years old in 1952, he participated in a hillclimb, his first motorsport competition. In 1958, he competed in the New Zealand Grand Prix, which brought him to the attention of the international racing community. His career in the Formula One World Championships lasted from 1958 until 1970. He is also the founder of McLaren Automotive, which he started in 1963.
Family Life
He was the son of a service station-owning couple, Ruth and Les McLaren. He grew up along with two sisters named Jan and Pat. He was married to Patty McLaren, with whom he had one daughter called Amanda.
Achievements
He is a member of the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame, International Motorsports Hall of Fame and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.
Death
He died on June 2, 1970 after he got into an accident while testing a new racecar.
