About Buster Keaton
Buster Keaton was an American actor, filmmaker and stunt performer widely remembered for his work in the silent film genre, most notably the iconic 1926 silent comedy film The General, which he starred in and co-directed. His other notable films include 1923's Our Hospitality, 1924's The Navigator and 1929's Spite Marriage.
Personal Life
He was born to vaudeville performers and silent film actors Joe Keaton and Myra Keaton. His first marriage was to actress Natalie Talmadge, with whom he had two children. His second marriage was to Mae Scriven. In 1940, he got married to his third wife Eleanor Norris. He and Eleanor remained together until his death in 1966.
Achievements
He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 1999, he was ranked #21 on the AFI's list of "The 50 Greatest Screen Legends".
In 2007, his 1926 film The General was ranked #18 on the AFI's list of the 100 greatest American films ever made.
Trivia
He was at one point in his life institutionalized.
He battled with severe alcoholism throughout the 1930s.
