About Butch Ballard
Butch Ballard was the pseudonym of American musician, George Edward Ballard. He was known best for his work as a drummer for jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. He also played in the Count Basie Orchestra, one of the most prominent ones at the time.
He taught music to a variety of students in the 1980s and then in the 1990s, he started leading a band he had established.

He was raised in Frankford, Philadelphia. It was his father who bought him his first drum set at the young age of 10. His wife’s name was Jessie.
Achievements
He was the recipient of the Mellon Jazz Community Award in 2006.

He died aged 92 on 1 October 2011.
