About Calvin Peete
World-renowned pro golfer Calvin Peete was one of the exceptionally skilled African-American players to dominate the PGA Tour in his era.
Childhood
Peete was born in Detroit and was the eighth of nine children. When he was 12, he broke his elbow resulting in him not being able to fully straighten his arm. This injury would later earn him the nickname “Mr Accuracy.”
Career
He developed an interest in golf in 1966 and by 1971, he had turned pro. He made his first PGA victory in 1979 when he won the Greater Milwaukee open and continued his winning streak between 1983 and 1985. He also played for the US team in 1983 and 1985.
Peete retired in 2001.
Personal Life and Death
Peete had seven children; five from his first marriage and two from his second marriage to Elaine Peete. He passed away in 2015 after a battle with lung cancer.
