About Cantinflas
Cantinflas, as he’s professionally known, was a multiple award-winning Mexican movie producer, comedian, scriptwriter, and an actor who featured in over 55 movies including “Around the World in 80 Days”, “Pepe” and “Neither Blood Nor Sand”.
He was mostly described as the pioneer of Mexican cinema and was nicknamed the “Charlie Chaplin of Mexico”.
His career began in the 1930s when he met producer and publicist, Santiago Reachi. He earned his first movie role in 1936 in the film titled “No te engañes corazón (Don't Fool Yourself Dear)”. Cantinflas was also a famous stage actor and was involved in a number of productions including “Yo Colón (I, Columbus)”.
Family
His original name was Fortino Mario Moreno y Reyes. He married Valentina Ivanova Zubareff in 1936 and together they had eight children.
Achievements
In 1952, he received the “Special Ariel” prize at the Ariel Awards, and won the “Golden Ariel” accolade at the 1987 version of the same event. He was also adjudged the “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical” at the 1957 Golden Globe Awards.
Death
Cantinflas died in 1993 after suffering from lung cancer.
Trivia
At a stage, he was named as the president for the Asociación Nacional de Actores acting guild.
