About Carl Barks
Until 1918, at the age of 17, Carl Barks saw drawing as a hobby. He worked with many organizations before joining Walt Disney in 1935 as an artist. His first notable work with the company came two years later when he was given a role in the production of the animated series “Modern Inventions”.
The American cartoonist was best known as the creator of the “Donald Duck” comic stories. He also created some popular characters such as Gladstone Gander, Scrooge McDuck, and Flintheart Glomgold.
Family
He was raised by his parents Arminta Johnson and William Barks, alongside a brother called Clyde. He married his third wife Garé Williams in 1954. His two previous marriages were to Clara Balken and Pearl Turner.
Honors
He received The Academy of Comic Book Arts Hall of Fame Award in 1973. Fourteen years later, he was elected into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame. He was also a recipient of the Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Award in 1996.
Trivia
His works had an impact on celebrated filmmakers like George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
Before his rise to fame, he took many jobs including woodcutting, and farming.
