About Carl Orff
Carl Orff started playing a number of musical instruments and composing songs at the age of five years. Before his seventeenth birthday, some of his works had been published. The German composer, who also worked as a music educator, was widely known for his 1937 cantata entitled “Carmina Burana”.
Some of his other popular musical compositions were titled “Antigonae” and “De temporum fine comoedia”. As a music teacher, he was known for developing the Orff Schulwerk approach which has served as the foundation for many music educations.
Family
His parents were Heinrich Orff and Paula Köstler. He and Alice Solscher had a daughter in 1921 called Godela. He married his fourth wife, Liselotte Schmitz in 1960. Before that, he had married and divorced writer Luise Rinser, and Gertrud Willert.
Education
He was trained at Munich Academy of Music.
Trivia
He was influenced by Claude Debussy.
During the First World War, he was a member of the German Army.
