About Carl Rogers
Carl Ransom Rogers became famous for his development of the person-centred therapy, which emphasized on using empathy, acceptance and genuineness to help a client lean towards their inbuilt desire for growth. Regarded as a psychotherapy pioneer, the American psychologist was heavily influenced by the methods employed by psychoanalyst Otto Rank and his disciple Jessie Taft.
He was the son of Julia Cushing, a homemaker and civil engineer Walter Rogers. He was raised alongside five siblings.
He was honored with the American Psychological Association’s Awards for “Distinguished Contributions to Psychology” and “Distinguished Contributions to Applied Psychology as a Professional Practice”.
He died on 4 February 1987 at the age of 85.
