Carl August Sandburg well known as Carl Sandburg was an extraordinary poet and journalist who hails from the United States.
Personal Life
His parents were of Swedish origins. In 1908, he made Lilian Steichen his wife and was succeeded by three children. He was considered a major figure in contemporary Literature by those who knew his works.
Career
Carl started working at a very young age. By the time he was thirteen, he was a milk wagon driver and had forsaken his school education. About a year later, he started working as a porter in a barbering shop and maintained that job for about four years.
Growing up, he started thinking of what to do and ended up in the army in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. He later got employed at Chicago Daily News where he worked as a reporter. There, he started writing poems and his works made him gain popularity.
Achievement
His poem collection “The Complete Poems of Carl Sandburg” and “Corn Huskers” won him a Pulitzer Prize but that was not all. He received another for his outstanding work on the biography of Abraham Lincoln titled “Abraham Lincoln: The War Years”.
