About Carl Smith
Nicknamed “Mr. Country” for his string of chart successes in the country music genre especially in the 1950s, American singer Carl Smith spent close to four decades in the music industry. After signing a recording contract with Columbia Records in 1950, he released his first official single, “Guilty Conscience”. He started gaining widespread attention the following year with the release of his song, “Let’s Live a Little”, which peaked at the number two spot on the Billboard country chart. His other top hits include “Hey Joel”, “You Are the One” and “Loose Talk”.
Family Life
He was a native of Maynardville, Tennessee which is also known as the home of another country music legend, Roy Acuff. He had four children: two daughters and two sons. He was first married to singer June Carter and then to country music singer Goldie Hill.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Death
He died at 82 years old on January 16, 2010, five years after the death of his wife, Goldie Hill.
