During his college days at Melbourne University, he was a skilled athlete. Following the footsteps of his gynecologist father, he was determined to make reproductive procedures smoother for women.
Notable Achievements
In 1983, he carried out the first human donor egg transplant after successfully practicing the method on ewes. He partnered with two colleagues to introduce the use of fertility drugs to produce multiple eggs. This was a major breakthrough in the success rate of IVF as it meant future mothers did not have to go through many operations to recover and preserve eggs. In 1986, he used sperm retrieval surgery to achieve the first IVF baby in the world.
Accolade
In 1995, he was honored with the Companion of the Order of Australia for his contributions to women's health and as a pioneer of in-vitro fertilization.
