Simpson made the Black community proud when she became the first black woman to play the role as a presenter of ABC’s World News Tonight and weekend edition. A position she held for a decade and a half. She is also a multiple-time Emmy award-winning TV journalist.
Education
She graduated from the University of Michigan and pursued a higher education at the University of Iowa.
Career Facts
She kicked off her career as a journalism educator and jumped through hurdles to become one of America’s most accomplished journalists with particular focus on social issues such as racism. She went on to distinguish herself as the first woman to be a news anchor in Chicago. During her career, she reported on politics and worked regularly in the U.S. Capitol building. In 2006, after a 40-year career, she retired from ABC News and taught journalism at Emerson College in Boston.
Trivia
She chronicled how she battled and overcame sea-based discrimination and racism in her journalistic career in her memoir, "News Lady”.
