Caroline Munro is an English actress and former model best known for starring in a number of horror films, science fiction and action films.
Background and Education
She comes from Berkshire in England. For her education, she went to a Roman Catholic convent school in Rottingdean.
Modelling Career
Her career started when her picture was put by her mom in a “Face of the Year” competition for the British newspaper The Evening News. She won this competition, paving the way for her modelling career.
She got her first model job at Vogue magazine at the age of 17. She then relocated to London for higher modelling jobs and became a major cover girl for fashion and television commercials.
She had a gig in 1969 to become a commercial poster girl for “Lamb’s Navvy Rum”. This gig lasted for a decade.
Acting Career
Caroline Munro then played minor roles in the films “Casino Royal” (1967) and “Where’s Jack?” (1969). Paramount Pictures gave her a screen test and a one-year contract. She was then cast in Richard Quine’s 1969 comedy Western film “A Talent for Loving”. The film starred Richard Widmark, Chaim Topol, and Cesar Romero.
Steadily she started gaining more prominent roles in the film industry, as she was cast as a slave girl in “Golden Voyage of Sinbad” (1973); a princess in the film “At the Earth’s Core” (1976); and a lethal Bond girl “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977).
As she aged, she continued to act occasionally. Some movies she acted in were; “To Die For” (1994), “Domestic Strangers “(1996) and “Vampyres” (2015). Her singing career didn’t yield any results.
Achievements
For her invaluable contribution to the horror genre in the film industry, Caroline Munro was inducted into the Rondo Hatton Classic Horrow Awards’ Monster Kid Hall of Fame.
Trivia
She is said to be the only actress who signed a contract with Hammer Films.
She briefly dabbled in singing, releasing the 1984 song “Pump Me Up”.
Family
Her first marriage, which lasted from 1970 to 1982, was to American singer and film producer Judd Hamilton. In 1990, she got married to George Dugdale. The marriage lasted until 2020 when Dugdale passed away.
