About Catherine of Aragon
Catherine of Aragon was the first wife of King Henry VIII and the Queen of England from 1509 to 1533. When her marriage to Henry did not produce any male heir, Henry had the marriage annulled. Her refusal to agree to an annulment of the marriage coupled with Pope Clement VII's refusal to annul the marriage led to Henry defying the Pope and separating the Church of England from the Catholic Church. Henry banished her from court and married other women with whom he fathered several children. Despite this, her daughter Mary eventually became Queen of England in 1553.
Family Life
She was married to Arthur, Prince of Wales from 1501 until his death in 1502. Her second marriage was to Arthur’s brother Henry from 1509 until its annulment in 1533. Her only surviving child was Mary (Mary I of England).
