Catherine is a former American politician, who occupied several political positions under the Democratic Party. She initially began her career as a lecturer, where she taught Marketing and Introduction to Business at Morgan State University in 1977.
She soon proceeded to The Baltimore Sun, where she worked as an independent editor. In 1994, she worked at Brunson Communications, where she served as vice president.
It is recorded that she began her political career in 1999 as she was elected into the Baltimore City Council and remained in office until 2004.
Over the course of her career, she has occupied offices such as:
- Member of the Maryland House of Delegates (2005-2007)
- Member of the Maryland Senate (2007-2016)
- Majority Leader of the Maryland Senate (2015-2016)
- Mayor of Baltimore (2016-2019)
In 2019, she was handed a 3-year jail term after pleading guilty to crimes of tax evasion and conspiracy.
