About Celeste Holm
Celeste Holm began her acting career on Broadway when she appeared in a 1938 production entitled “Gloriana”. Widely known for her role as Anne Dettrey in the film “Gentleman's Agreement”, the American screen goddess was described by many critics as one of the most versatile actresses of her generation.
She further gained fame for her performances in films such as 1950’s “All About Eve” and “Come to the Stable” which premiered in 1949.
Family
She was raised as the only child of author Jean Parke and her husband, Theodor Holm. She married Frank Basile in 2004. Prior to their union, she had been in four different marriages, including her relationship with actors Wesley Addy, and Ralph Nelson. She was the mother of American philosopher Theodor Holm Nelson.
Education
She studied at Chicago’s University School for Girls before attending the University of Chicago for her acting training.
Awards
In 1947, she won the “Best Supporting Actress” prize at the Academy Awards. That same year, she received a Golden Globe Award.
Trivia
She has worked for UNICEF as one of its ambassadors.
