Early Life
A native of North Carolina, Kuralt was the youngest radio announcer at the age of fourteen. He attended Charlotte's Central High School and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” in the class of 1951. He moved on to the University of North Carolina where he majored in history.
Career
Kuralt was the youngest CBS correspondent in 1960. He was known for his deep and reassuring voice, as he reported on numerous historical events, including the 1960 presidential election, the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, the Vietnam War, and the Crisis in the Congo.
Kuralt received several awards for his work, including the George Polk Award and ten Emmy Awards for journalism. He was the CBS News Sunday Morning anchor for fifteen years until 1994 when he retired.
