About Charles Martin Hall
Charles Martin Hall was an American inventor, chemist and businessman. He is remembered for having invented a cheaper process (the Hall-Herout process) of extracting aluminum, which led to it being the first metal, since the discovery of iron, to be used on a wide scale. He co-founded the Pittsburgh Reduction Company that eventually became Alcoa (Aluminum Company of America).
Family Life
He was the son of Sophronia H. Brooks and Herman Bassett Hall. His sister, Julia Brainerd Hall was a chemist. She helped him in the formulation of the Hall-Herout process. He was never married and did not have any children.
Achievements
He was a recipient of the Perkin Medal.
