About Chet Huntley
Chet Huntley was known for his occupation as a newscaster. The show that gained him popularity was “The Huntley- Brinkley Report” which he hosted from 1956 to 1970.
Family and Education
He was the eldest child of Percy Adams Huntley and Blanche Wadine Tatham. He had his education at Whitehall High School, Montana State College and attained a degree in speech and drama from the University of Washington. He had two children with his first wife Ingrid Rolim. A few years later, the couple got separated. He then married Tippy Stringer.
Career Highlight
His career as a news anchor began with the KIRO AM radio station. Some of the earliest stations he worked with are KGW AM, CBS Radio and ABC radio network. In 1955, he started working with NBC Radio network, the radio station that made him famous. During the 1956 national political party conventions, the network needed someone who could produce a great report on the convention. The only option they had was to choose between Chet Huntley and David Brinkley and since the two were very good at their work, the show was given to them. They both served as the hosts of “The Hunter-Brinkley Report”.
Aside from working with NBC, he also worked for an advertising company of which he had some shares in the company. He retired from news anchoring and his last broadcast was in 1970.
Achievement
After his death, he was inducted to the Television Hall of Fame in 1988.
Death
He passed away in 1974 after he suffered from lung cancer.
