Choi Hong-man made his debut in the world of kickboxing in 2005, following his training with Greek former champion, Nicholas Pettas. He had previously pursued ssireum (Korean wrestling) competitively. In 2006, he fought in his first mixed martial match competition at the K-1 Premium 2006 Dynamite!! in Japan. In May 2009, he joined the Japanese mixed martial arts promotion, Dream. His nicknames include “Korean Colossus”, “Korean Monster” and “Che Man”.
