Writing Career
Bonington has documented most of his climbing adventures. He has published over fifteen literatures with some titled “Everest: The Unclimbed Ridge” and “Tibet's Secret Mountain, the Triumph of Sepu Kangri”.
Family
Before the death of his first wife Wendy Bonington in 2014, the couple had three kids named Conrad, Rupert, and Daniel. In 2016, he married Loreto Herma.
Education
He’s a product of the University College School. The famous mountaineer was also trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Honors
In 1976, he became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Two decades later, he was knighted. He has also been decorated with other medals such as the Royal Geographical Society’s Founder's Medal.
Trivia
Between 2005 and 2014, he served as Lancaster University’s chancellor.
He has also collaborated with other renowned mountaineers like Doug Scott and Al Rouse.
Bonington has visited the Himalayas more than 15 times.
In 1985, he became the oldest person to reach the top of Mount Everest.
