With a career total of 158 singles championship wins, Christine Marie Evert is considered as one of professional tennis’ greatest female players of the 1970s and 1980s.
She was 16 years old when she debuted in the Grand Slam through her participation in the US Open in 1971. Four years later, she won the Wimbledon and French Open Championships.
As of January 2021, Evert is the record holder of the highest number of consecutive years an athlete has won at least a Grand Slam title, which stands at 13.
Family Life
Her father, Coach Jimmy Evert, trained her from the age of five. She had four siblings; one of them was the late tennis star Jeanne Evert. Her three ex-husbands include golfer Greg Norman, ski racer Andy Mill and tennis star John Lloyd. She dated tennis player Jimmy Connors in the 1970s.
Achievements
She was ranked world number 1 by the WTA every year from 1974 to 1981. As of 2020, she was the record holder of the highest Grand Slam finals appearances (34).
