About Chris Marker
Many film theorists have described Chris Marker as France’s greatest film essayist of all-time. In the 1940s, Marker worked as a novelist, journalist and photographer. He unveiled his maiden novel in 1949 which was entitled “The Forthright Spirit (Le Coeur net)”. He also published other works like “Giraudoux Par Lui-Même” and “Inner Time of Television”.
As a filmmaker
Marker was famously known for his career in the movie industry. He worked on many popular films but was best known for his role in 1962’s “La Jetée”. Other films that he worked on were “Sans Soleil” and “A Grin Without a Cat”.
Private Life
His original name was Christian François Bouche-Villeneuve.
Trivia
During his active years, he worked with some prominent filmmakers such as Alain Resnais and William Klein.
He was a member of the Maquis (FTP) during the Second World War. Marker was also a paratrooper with the U.S. Air Force.
