Christian Pulisic is a soccer player of American origins. He has played for Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Chelsea in England and the US national team in international competition. He is considered one of the best soccer players in the United States – a country that is not known for producing stars in the sport.
Family Life
His slightly-older cousin, Will Pulisic, has also played soccer for the US (U-17) national team and Borussia Dortmund. His parents, who are named Mark and Kelley, were both collegiate-level soccer athletes, whereas his dad also played professionally.
Achievements
He set quite a few records, at the age of 17, upon being called up to the senior level of the US soccer team in 2016. For instance, there has never been an American player younger than him to play in a World Cup qualifier. Also, in the modern era of American soccer, he became the youngest player to have actually scored a goal for his country.
He also set a number of youth records in Europe. For example, in 2016 Pulisic became the youngest foreigner, at the age of 17 years (and 212 days), to ever score a goal in the Bundesliga. And later that same year he also set Dortmund’s record as being the youngest player in club history to participate in the UEFA Champions League. And when Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal Cup for the 2016-2017 season, Christian Pulisic also became the youngest American soccer player to win a major trophy in Europe.
In 2018, at the age of 20 years (and 63 days), he captained the US national team. Up until that point, there has never been a player younger than that who was given this honor.
Trivia
His last name is Croatian in origin. And he used his ancestry to become a Croatian citizen so that he would not have to get a work visa in order to play in Germany.
However, he refused an invitation to play on the Croatian national team in 2018.
He is 170 cm (5’ 7”) tall.
