About Christopher Latham Sholes
American inventor Christopher Latham Sholes’ fame rests on his invention of the Qwerty keyboard. He together with other inventors introduced the first typewriter in the United States. He was also a publisher and an editor.

He wedded Mary Jane McKinney.
Career
He started as an apprentice where he worked in a printing shop. He moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin after completing his apprenticeship. He worked for his brothers who were also publishers. He became an editor for the Wisconsin Enquirer. He moved to Southport, where he met his wife.
He later became an editor for the Wisconsin Enquirer in Madison. In 1960, he became an editor for Milwaukee News but resigned in order to accept a proposal from President Abraham Lincoln as the collector of port of Milwaukee.
From 1852 to 1854, he was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. He was a member of the Wisconsin Senate from 1856 to 1859.

Death
On February 17, 1890, the inventor died after suffering from tuberculosis for almost a decade.
