About Cissy Houston
At just five years old, Cissy Houston joined her three siblings to form a gospel group called The Drinkard Four (which later became The Drinkard Singers). She launched her solo career in 1969, a few years after she had founded and performed with the Sweet Inspirations, an R&B girl group.
She also found fame as a session musician, recording backing vocals for the likes of Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin.
Family Life
She is well-known for being the mother of the late singer and actress, Whitney Houston through her second marriage to John Houston Jr. She was born as the last of the eight children of Delia Mae and Nitcholas Drinkard.
Soul singers Dee Dee Warwick and Dionne Warwick are her nieces, through her sister Lee Warrick. She also had two sons, retired NBA player Gary Houston and Michael.
Achievements
She has been the recipient of two Grammy Awards.
