About Clara Petacci
Clara Petacci was the mistress of the famous Italian dictator and politician Benito Mussolini. Although Mussolini was over 20 years older than she was, it was reported that she had a great love for the politician.
Background
Petacci was born and raised in Rome to a wealthy and highly religious family. Her father, Francesco Saverio Petacci, was a great physician and had high support for fascism.
Romance with Mussolini
During her childhood, she adored Mussolini for his political brilliance and rise to power during the 1920s. Then, at just 14 years, she wrote a letter to Mussolini addressing how bad she felt when she heard the news of his attempted assassination in 1926. Soon, she caught the attention of the politician.
Although Mussolini was married, it did not stop him from having a long-standing romance with Petacci. Their first meeting was in 1933.
On one occasion, they stormed out of Mussolini’s palace and left Milan together. The politician also bought her the 1939 model of the Alfa Romeo sports car.
Marriage
She was married to Riccardo Federici for two years (1934 – 1936).
Death
On April 27, 1945, while traveling with Mussolini in a convoy, they were captured and executed by Italian partisans. She is alleged to have thrown herself in front of the politician to protect him when the shots were fired.
