Cleavon Little was an award-winning and multi-talented American actor. He acted in several stage dramas and starred in many films and television movies from the 1960s to the early 1990s.
Education
He graduated from Kearny High School in 1957 and then gained admission into the San Diego City College. He later obtained a dramatic arts degree from San Diego State University.
He received training from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before making his professional debut.
Career Highlights
His professional acting debut came in February 1967, when he played the role of the Muslim Witch in the off-Broadway theatre performance of “MacBird.”
In 1968, Little made his debut film appearance in the popular comedy film “What’s So Bad About Feeling Good?”
In 1969, the actor made his first Broadway appearance when he played the role of Le Haines in the musical “Jimmy Shine.” The following year he did incredibly well acting as the main character in “Purlie” on Broadway.
His signature television roles include the role of Dr. Noland in “Temperature Rising” and Sheriff Batt in “Blazing Saddles.”
What caused Cleavon Little’s Death?
Little died at home after suffering from colon cancer. Prior to his demise he battled stomach ulcer.
Awards
He earned the Drama Desk Award and the Tony Award for his role in “Purlie.” In addition, he also received a Primetime Emmy Award for his role in “Dear John.”
