Early Life
Born in 1942 in Mobile, Alabama, Jones started playing baseball at Mobile County Training School in Mobile, Alabama. He played professionally with Alabama A&M Bulldogs and played with the Grambling State Tigers of Grambling State University.
Career Highlights
Jones signed with the New York Mets in 1962 and made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 1963. His first two seasons were not so great but he came back in the 1964 season with an average of .275 batting and 57 runs. In 1966, he was named to the Topps Major League All-Star Rookie Team with a .297 batting average. The 1969 season was his best with .340 and he was named an All-Star player after his fantastic achievement of winning the World Series Championship. In 1975, Jones moved to the Chicago White Sox, where he hung up his boots a year later. This amazing sportsman was inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021.
Personal Life
Jones married his high school sweetheart Angela in 1962 and they have two children Anja and Cleon, Jr.
