Early Life
At age 11, the artsy Ballard pursued a musical program at the University of North Texas. After school, he headed off to New York, where he gained some prominence as composer and songwriter.
Career Highlights
One of his earliest works was “Hey Little Baby,” which was used as the theme song for Expo 58, the first major world fair held in Belgium.
Among the songwriter’s top-rated songs are “The Game of Love” and “She Needs Love" for Wayne Montana and the Mindbenders. He also wrote the chart-topping “I’m Alive” for the Hollies and penned a variety of songs for ads. His songs were heard on about 10 million records in both the US and Britain.
Honor
The El-Paso, Texas born musician was inducted into the Honor Roll of Songwriters in the West Texas Music Hall of Fame.
Death
He died in 2008, aged 77. The cause of death was a stroke.
