About Connie Mack
American baseball catcher and manager Cornelius McGillicuddy held the record of being a 5-time World Series Champion from 1910 to 1930. He also had the most managerial wins in his career. Having coached for more than 50 years, the Massachusetts-born is also the longest-serving manager in MLB history.
Early Life
Mack was born to Micheal McGillicuddy and Mary McKillop. The baseball player had his education at East Brookfield but quit at the age of 9 to be a clerk to support his family. He also worked on local farms while he practiced baseball in his old school.
Career
Mack's baseball playing career began in 1886 as a catcher for the Washington Wizards. He stayed with the team from 1886 to 1889 before moving to the Buffalo Bisons in 1890. In 1891, he signed for the Pittsburgh Pirates, spending five years with the team.
After he hung up his gloves, he ventured into management. His first managerial stint came from 1894 to 1896 with his former team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He later became manager of the Philadelphia Athletics from 1901 to 1950. It was with the Athletics that Mack recorded his most outstanding feats. What it means is that he was in his 80s when he retired from management.

He was the first manager to guide a team to a century of wins. He accomplished a 100-win season five times for the Philadelphia Athletics.
Connie Mack was the first manager to lift the World Series championship three times.
In the early 1950s, Shibe Park, the home of the Philadelphia Athletics, was renamed Connie Mack Stadium in honor of the legendary manager.
In 1927, Time magazine featured Connie Mack’s on the cover of its issue.
Personal Life and Death
Mack was married to Catherine Holahan from 1919 to 1956. Prior to that he had been married to Margaret Hogan from 1887 to 1892. Hogan died just after giving birth to their third child. All in all, he had eight children from his two marriages.
On February 8, 1956, the distinguished manager died at the age of 93. He was survived by his wife and children.
