About Craig Biggio
American baseball star Craig Biggio, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. He played in American Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros for his entire decade-long career.
Early Years and Family
Right from childhood, American football was Craig’s passion. He however developed an interest in baseball, and he was great at it. He rejected football scholarships and accepted a baseball scholarship to play for Seton Hall University in New Jersey.
Graig married Patty [Egan], daughter of a one-time New Jersey legislator, and they had three kids.
Baseball Career
Though he was a talented in-fielder, Graig’s coach at Seton switched him to play catcher because the team needed one. By the end of his career, the hall of famer had become an outstanding in-fielder, catcher and second base.
In 1987, the celebrated sportsman made it into Major League baseball team the Houston Astros in their first-round draft. He would go on to make his mark in that team for the next 11 years. He began his Major League career as a catcher and was later switched to second base.
The baseball maestro made a glorious exit out of the Baseball Major League in 2007.
Achievements
He made 53 home runs in his 11-year career. He has won several awards including; Major League Baseball All-Star 7 times; Baseball America National League All-Star at second base twice; Houston Astro’s Most Valuable Player [1998]; and the Roberto Clemente Award [2007].
