About Craig Venter
Renowned American biologist Craig Venter is best known as the founder of the research organization called the J. Craig Venter Institute. In 1998, he established the Celera Corporation under the operations of Quest Diagnostics.
The celebrated biologist is described as the first person to draft the complete structure of the human genome. Venter is also one of the founders of the Human Longevity Inc. venture.
Family
He was born to John and Elizabeth Venter. He married Heather Kowalsk in2008 but had a child called Christopher from his first marriage to a biologist, Barbara Rae-Venter.
Education
He moved to the University of California, San Diego after a short spell at the College of San Mateo.
Achievements
Venter received the Dan David Prize in 2012 and became a member of the American Philosophical Society the following year. His other awards include the National Medal of Science, and the American Academy of Achievement’s “Golden Plate Award”.
Fun Facts
In 1984, he became an employee of the National Institutes of Health. He has also worked at the State University of New York at Buffalo as a lecturer. His autobiography is titled “A Life Decoded”.
Time magazine named him in their “100 most influential people in the world” list in 2007 and 2008.
