About Cyril Ritchard
His real name was Cyril Joseph Trimnell Ritchard and he was birthed in New South Wales in Australia. He was an incredible actor and director. He was paired with Madge Elliot who was a dancer for shows but she turned down the offer because he was not a good dancer. They however realized they were a compatible team two years later and started touring New Zealand and performing.
In 1918, he featured in “Going Up” and “Yes Uncle” together with Madge but they fell apart afterwards. During the Broadway production of “Peter Pan”, Cyril played the role of Captain Hook and gained a lot of traction for it.” He was the villain Alfred in Hitchcock’s “Blackmail” in 1929.
Personal Life
He grew up in a religious family and schooled in St Aloysius College. He went on to study medicine at Sydney University but gave it all up to become an actor.
Achievements
He received a Tony Award for his role in “Peter Pan” as “Best Featured Actor in a Musical”. He won his second Tony Award for “Best Actor” in 1959 play “The Pleasure of his Company.
Death
While he was narrating in the Chicago Touring Company of “Side by Side by Sondheim” in November 1977, he had a heart attack which put his life at risk and eventually claimed it about a month later.
