About D'Angelo
Michael Eugene Archer, known professionally as D'Angelo has received credit for making contributions to the neo soul genre of music. He played in Precise, a band he formed in his hometown and I.D.U., a hip hop group before going solo in 1991.
He garnered attention in 1994 when he served as a co-writer and co-producer for the single, “U Will Know” for Black Men United, an R&B supergroup. His own well-known singles include “Lady”, “Brown Sugar” and “Cruisin’”.
Family Life
He has a brother named Luther. He grew up in a Pentecostal family. He has three children: Morocco, Imani and Michael D’Angelo Archer II. The latter is the product of his relationship with his fellow neo soul pioneer, Angie Stone.
Achievements
He won two Grammy Awards in 2001 for his single “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” and his second album, “Voodoo”.
