About Dan Petrescu
A former Romanian football player, Daniel Petrescu is mostly recognized for his accomplishments on the field of play with Southampton FC, Chelsea FC, and other football clubs. After he hung up his boots, he went into management, coaching Romanian teams like Rapid Bucuresti, Sportul Studentesc, and CFR Cluj. He was appointed manager of the latter in 2021.
Personal Life
He has two daughters named Rebecca and Beatrice Chelsea with his Ex-wife, Daniela Carmen. The couple got divorced in 2003. Petrescu got married to Adriana Stan in 2008 and the following year had their first child together.
Career in Football
He started his professional career in football at a young age, playing in Steau Bucuresti’s youth team and speedily progressed. He received a call up to join the first team of the club in 1986. That same year he was loaned to Olt Scornicești, where he played from 1986-1987. He returned to play for Steau Bucuresti the following year and went on to make more than 90 appearances, scoring over 25 goals.
The winger who sometimes played as a full-back was signed by Foggia in 1991. After two seasons with Fogia, he was signed by the Italian side Genoa. He had a successful career in Genoa which led him to get bigger deals. The second part of his career was spent playing for English football clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, Chelsea, Bradford City and Southampton.
Career as a Club Manager
After one season with Romanian club National Bucuresti, he retired from football and proceeded into coaching. He got his first job managing a second division side Sportul Studențesc in 2003. After impressing the management of Rapid București Club, he was appointed to coach their team in 2003; however, Petrescu left the position after four months.
Some of the clubs that he has managed in his career include: Wisla Krakow, Kuban Krasnodar, Dynamo Moscow, Al-Arabi, and Al-Nasr.
