Daniel Clive Wheldon, better known as Dan Wheldon, was one of the best and most accomplished English motor racing drivers during his career. He competed and won several races in the 2000s until he lost his life during the “IZOD IndyCar World Championship” in 2011.
He was from Emberton in Olney, Buckinghamshire, England. His father was a “karting” racing driver, and his mother was a timekeeper.
He was an alumnus of Bedford School. In addition, he was a representative of the Youth Challenge Program by the USA’s National Guard.
He debuted in a “karting” competition at age eight and achieved early milestones. Then, he progressed and began competing in the Toyota Atlantic Championship, Indy Lights, and the USF2000 National Championship.
In 2002, he joined Panther Racing and began competing in the IndyCar Series. After placing as runner-up of the 2004 Andretti Green Racing (AGR), he won the championship in 2005. He then won the 2005 and 2011 “Indianapolis 500.” In 2006, he was a co-winner of the “24 Hours of Daytona.”
He died at age 33 on 16 October 2011. Many IndyCar fans remember Wheldon’s death as he lost his life when his No. 77 car crashed during the 2011 “IZOD IndyCar World Championship.”
